About Dodo Dramatics
Distinct; not extinct
Our zero-waste puppetry performances are distinctive for our ambitious up-cycled set design. We specialise in writing and producing original history plays/musicals. We combine music, rap and puppetry to retell ancient stories with an anti-racist and feminist lens. We strive to create performances which are accessible, educational and sustainable for everyone to enjoy.
Our Story
Rhodri and Trudi, along with their co-founder Katie, set up DoDo DRAMATICS while studying at university. From the very beginning, DoDo DRAMATICS wanted to make work which would create change, socially and environmentally. Their mission to honour the marginalise and misremembered voices of the past is a constant theme of DoDo's performance projects. Puppetry and song are also trademark elements of a DoDo performance.
Meet The Team
Trudi Licence
Playwright, Performer and Producer.
My role within the company is primarily to research and develop our original scripts. Once our script is past the development phase, I turn my focus to producing and coordinating tours and performances. When it comes to making props, set and puppets I am drawn to problem-solving. I enjoy the challenge of our zero-waste ethos and finding practical, durable and tourable solutions from limited resources.
Rhodri Mayer
Director, Performer and Treasury.
Once we have a script to work with I introduce my puppetry and dramaturgical knowledge. In anticipation of annual tours, I focus on our budgets and funidng options to analyse how we can progress. Having trained as a puppeteer I collaborate with Trudi to make sustainable and practical puppets.
